Job Title: Assistant Curator
Organisation: Court Barn Museum
Salary: £21,840 p.a
Type: Part time: 4 days per week 9.45 – 5.15pm, including working two weekends a month and occasional Bank holiday working.
Location: Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.
Closing Date: Sunday 7 December.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be a team player who is genuinely friendly and helpful, with excellent communication skills, and a flexible ‘can-do’ approach to working. You will be computer literate, with knowledge of museums databases and an exceptional eye for detail, along with first class customer service skills.
About the Museum
Court Barn is run by the Guild of Handicraft Trust, a registered charity.
Our aim is to encourage people to learn from and enjoy the Museum’s collections showing the work of craftspeople from the Arts and Crafts movement onwards, to foster the appreciation of craft and design work and to support local artists, designers and craftspeople.
About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Curator to join our small team at Court Barn. This is an exciting time for the museum as we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2027 and have also secured funding to purchase a collections management database to enable us to catalogue our collections online.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Managing the implementation of a new collections management database and training volunteers in the use of the new system
- Undertaking the Accreditation Return to Arts Council England
- Managing paperwork for loans and acquisitions
- Occasional front of house work required
- Managing social media including a regular newsletter and website.
- Act as Key Holder – responsible for unlocking the museum, then securing and alarming on closure.
- Any other duties as required.
About you
- Knowledge and interest in history, craft and design.
- Strong administration and organisational skills with a high level of literacy and attention to detail.
- Highly organised with the ability to focus and stay on task in a busy museum environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to deal diplomatically with a wide range of people
- Numerate and confident user of Microsoft Office.
- Experience of project-based work delivering to a deadline.
- Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities, cultural diversity and access for all.
- Able to work on ones own and as part of a team

Experience in CMS databases and cataloguing collections
